Ninety-nine year old William Dallam first served in the Navy during WWII from 1943-45 aboard the USS Moale in the Pacific.  While William was a torpedoman striker on the USS Moale, his father was working on the atomic bomb project in Hanford, Washington that developed the “fat man” plutonium bomb dropped on Nagasaki.  William's mother was connected to Eleanor Roosevelt through the Red Cross.  The USS Moale monitored radiation in Nagasaki.
After obtaining his degree in education from West Chester Teacher's College, William served in the Korean War aboard the USS Oriskany as a mineman.  After returning home, he worked at the Savannah River nuclear plant then went on to a 37 year career at the PA Department of Education serving as Chief of Federal Programs.  He now supports the Mary Lou Dallam Memorial literacy fund in dedication to his wife's service to the PA Department of Education.
